The Order: 1886

Lycan (Werewolf) Elder

The big news is that I finished The Order 1886.  And do you know what, I liked it.  It is a deeply flawed game but, despite some frustrations, it was a good ride.  So the play through videos are all finished and edited and are up every day until Wednesday the 18th when the big finale arrives.  I am also going to write a review, which I hope will be on the channel on Thursday 19th.

4 o’Clock Feature

My 4 o’clock feature continued on the Facebook page with the following videos taking centre stage

Monday 9th – Zoink Games brilliantly insane – Stick it to the Man it is available on all platforms now, and if you haven’t played it, click on the link to see what it is all about  and then buy it coz it’s great.

Tuesday 10th – Watch Dogs Digital Trips – Spider Tank.  Watch Dogs wasn’t quite the experience we were expecting, but the digital trips were completely out there.

Wednesday 11th – InFAMOUS Second Son. Delsin takes on the DUP on top of Seattle’s Space Needle and get an extraordinary new power.

Thursday 12th – Destiny PvP Kills. I am not very good at FPS games, but I always held my own in Control Matches in Destiny.  Here’s a montage of my best game.

Friday 13th – Final Fantasy XIV – Gathering Classes. Gathering classes in Final Fantasy XIV are almost as fun as the combat classes.  Here’s a quick video looking at how they work.

Minecraft Tutorials

I popped up a couple of Minecraft tutorials looking particularly at how to use rail systems in the PlayStation 4 version.

I have another tutorial that will be going up later in the week on how to use redstone repeaters.  They are great fun and can add all sorts to your build.  I am particularly proud of my sticky piston, redstone lamp combo.

 

 

 

Final Fantasy XV Episode Duscae

The BIG news is that thanks to my pre-order of Final Fantasy Type Zero HD I am getting my mitts on the playable demo of Final Fantasy XV.  Which is supposed to by utterly awesome.  I will play it on Friday evening and get footage up as soon as I can.  The main scenario is meant to be 3 hours! I simply cannot wait.

Load out is a gross out shooter. Fun but silly.

Week 4 of my Facebook 4 O’Clock Feature goes from charming turn based RPG Child of Light to the utterly bonkers but very playable LoadOut.

Monday 2nd March – Final Fantasy XIV: Battle Chocobo

If you are a regular visitor to this site or my YouTube channel you will know that Final Fantasy XIV is a real favourite of mine. Not just this game, but the entire series (except XIII that was pants). Chocobos are a mainstay of the FF universe and in FF XIV you can get them to fight for you. Here’s how!

Tuesday 3rd March – Mike Checks Out… Child of Light 

Child of Light was one of my highlights of 2014 and made my Top 5 Games of 2014 list.  It is from UbiSoft and the art style is just beautiful.  it also benefits from a brilliant soundtrack and strategic turn based combat that show surprising depth.  Worth a look and can be purchased of PS4, PS3 and PS Vita.

Wednesday 4th March – Watch Dogs: Jumping Bridges

Watch Dogs was a game that divided opinion, I quite liked it but it didn’t exactly set my world on fire. One thing I did like very much was bombing around in a flash car doing stupid things. Here’s and example of that!

Thursday 5th March – Mike Checks Out… Towerfall Ascension

TowerFall Ascension is a totally brilliant retro miltiplayer game. It’s up to 4 players on a sofa gameplay is fast furious and hilarious. I draft in my son to help with this video and we have a blast.

Friday 6th March – Mike Checks Out… LoadOut

Load out is a gross and totally bonkers 3rd Person multiplayer shooter. It is free to play and, as I explain in the video, I am concered that the in game transactions are a little bit restrictive. Regardless this is really good fun.

Monday 23rd Feb: Outlast – Part 4 

Outlast was a horror title that hit the instant game collection early in the PS4 life time.  You are armed with nothing other that a camcorder to protect you from the tortured, violent inhabitants of an asylum.  This episode we meet a less than pleasant chap with body issues.  It doesn’t end well.

Tuesday 24th Feb 2015: Watch Dogs – Digital Trips

The Hype surrounding Watch Dogs was huge and sadly it didn’t entirely live up to it.  I thought is was good fun although I get a bit bored with it at the end.  The digital trips however were totally insane.  Here are a couple of them for you!

Wednesday 25th Feb 2015: Abe’s Oddysee New and Tasty

I played the original on PS1 back in 1997 and it was brilliant then.  The visual and control tweaks are perfect and the game is just a appealing as it always was.  Farting as a game mechanic can’t be beaten.

Thursday 26th Feb 2015: Final Fantasy XIV – Class Run Through: Marauder – Arcanist

Final Fantasy XIV is a great MMORPG and in this series of videos I run you through the different classes.  The first video featured the Arcanist – a magic user with a little friend and the Marauder – a class who settles things with a big axe.

Friday 27th Feb 2015: Valiant Hearts – Part 1

This game came first in my top 5 of 2014.  It is a stunning title that deals with the difficult subject of the first world war through the eyes of 4 ordinary people.  It is heart breaking and the developers deal with this difficult subject so sensitively.  A must play title

A sublime experience charting how Ellie found herself in Joel’s care.

Week 2 of my new Facebook 4 O’Clock Feature brought an eclectic mix of YouTubery from AAA titles to a piece of totally original musical genius (ahem).

It’s been great fun for me to revisit these videos almost a year later and remember how much fun they were to make.

Monday 16th Feb: InFamous Second Son – Part 1 “I’m Told That Hurts”

InFamous Second Son was an excellent game that really showcased what the PS4 was capable of graphically.  The story was good and the voice cast excellent.  However after finishing Second Son I went back and played InFamous 2 on my PS3 and it was a superior game in pretty much every aspect.  Story, environments, enemies, scope was just so much grander in InFamous 2.  I hope that the next InFamous game is less of a showcase and more a complete game.

Tuesday 17th Feb 2015: Mike Checks Out… Mercenary Kings

A really challenging retro title from Indy developer Tribute Games that got its funding via a successful Kickstarter campaign. Four player split screen co-op and hard as nails game-play made this game a real treat when it appeared as part of the Instant Game Collection in April last year.

Wednesday 18th Feb 2015: Final Fantasy XIV – Chubby Chocobo Song

OK so I love Final Fantasy XIV it’s a brilliant MMO which plays beautifully on PS4.  However my favourite thing in FFXIV is the Fat Chocobo mount and here is my musical homage to this brilliant bird.

Thursday 19th Feb 2015: Dragon Age Inquisition “The Wedge of Destiny”

Dragon Age Inquisition made my top 5 games of 2014 and in my wanderings around Ferelden I happened upon this brilliant Easter Egg.  I present to you a video showing  how you discover the infamous shield ‘The Wedge of Destiny!!!’

Friday 20th Feb 2015: The Last of Us Left Behind – Part 1

Another game that made my top 5 of 2014.  This is the first episode of a complete playthrough and what a game it was.  It adds so much to Ellie’s character and her motivation and determination in the first game.  Do not play it unless you have completed the main game.

I have recently spend far more time working on PS Phwar’s Facebook page (click the button to the right to see it in action). One of the things I have decided to do is at 4 o’clock on week days post one video out from my back catalogue on to the page.

Tuesday 10th Feb: Final Fantasy XIV – Writing a Basic Macro.

Macros can save a lot of time and limited button space in this excellent MMO. This is a short basic tutorial for a combat Macro.

Wednesday 11th – Don’t Starve – Woody’s Dark Secret

This was the very first video I posted to PS Phwar on 7th February 2015.  It isn’t the most slick or professional effort, but it remains the most viewed video on the channel.  Woody the Canadian woodsman’s hilarious secret is exposed.

Thursday 12th Feb 2015: Dead Nation Apocalypse – So Many Zombies

This poor video has never had a view. This was still early days so the sound quality is not very good, I am much better at that now. Still it does show how far (hopefully) the channel has come in the last 12 months.

Friday 13th Feb: Surviving Don’t Starve – Fire!!!!!

Don’t Starve was number 4 on my favourite games of 2014 list. This video perfectly shows just how brutal this game is. My joy at finding a safe haven is cruelly snatched away in fiery doom.
