Top 5 Games of the Year, all in one place 2014-2017
Every year I look back at PS4 and list my Top 5 Games of the Year. There have been some amazing games since PS4 hit the shelves in November 2013. I certainly haven’t played all of them. But these are the one that exercised my thumbs the most in their respective years. If you want to see all my YouTube content please click here or on the YouTube button on the top right of the page.
Top 5 Games of the Year 2014
My first stab at an annual top 5 was published in January 2015. At that point the PlayStation 4 was yet to really hit its stride, however, there were still some amazing games. I didn’t have the tech then to make a video about it so I blogged instead. Click here for the full article.
The list included Dragon Age Inquisition and the wonderfully silly (but hardcore) Don’t Starve. You may be surprised by the game that got the number one spot, it still remains in the top 5 of my favourite PS4 games so far.

Now I was able to produce videos of my favourite games. PlayStation added the ability to save your captured videos and photos to a memory stick. I could finally start doing a reasonable edit on my laptop. Half way through the year I invested in an Elgato capture card and a reasonable microphone. Although the cabling required to capture properly made the lounge look like a bowl of plastic coated spaghetti. So this time we got a video version of my top 5 games of the year instead.
The Number 1 game was less surprising (pretty obvious really) but a game about undead Scandinavians and a beautiful walking simulator also made the cut. Click on the video for the full list.
Top 5 Games of the Year 2016
By now the PlayStation 4 had become the dominant console on the planet. AAA titles and cool Indies meant there were more great games than you could shake a controller at. Obviously, this made a top 5 games of the year much harder to choose. The return of Nathan Drake made the number one spot pretty easy (spoilers), but the other 4 included the return to form of a beloved franchise and cowboy robots in space. And you can watch the video on the left to find out what they were.
Top 5 Games of the Year 2017
2017 has proven to be a stupendous year for the PlayStation 4. Superb game after superb game lit up our TV screens. Overshadowing other systems with quality content. Horizon: Zero Dawn was a standout achievement in storytelling, gameplay, environment and character so why did it only get number 2 on my list? One other game eclipsed H:ZD for me, due to its daring subject matter and the innovation shown by the developer. You’ll have to click on the video on the left to find out!

2018 doesn’t show any signed of slowing down with a wealth of new IPs and returning favourites to look forward to.
Detroit Become Human is my top pick of upcoming titles, but Ni No Kuni 2, God of War and Kingdom Come Deliverance are also vying for my attention. This is a good time to be a gamer so enjoy 2018 and all the gaming goodness it will bring.
